Next Friday, August 20, the New Zealand singer and songwriter Lorde will release her new album, a production entitled ‘Solar Power‘ which will be released four years after her previous production (‘Melodrama‘).
The album will consist of twelve original songs composed and recorded during the last two years. The artist describes this third album as “a celebration of the natural world, an attempt to immortalize the deep and transcendent feelings I taste in the open air. In moments of heartbreak, grief, deep love or confusion, I look to nature for answers. I have learned to breathe and connect. This is what has come out.”.
In support of the natural world the artist has decided to have the album released in a non-CD format called the eco-conscious Music Box which will include bonus visual content, handwritten liner notes, exclusive photos and an album download card along with special surprises. When talking about the concept Lorde comments, “I decided early on in the creation process that I wanted to create an advanced, eco-friendly alternative to the CD. I wanted this product, Music Box, to be similar in size, shape and price to the CD, to be displayed in the same way in stores, but to be distinctive in its commitment to the evolution of a modern album.”
After premiering the title track, the second official preview is the single ‘Stoned at the Nail Salon‘, a song produced by the ubiquitous Jack Antonoff that the singer herself describes as follows: “This song is sort of a rumination on getting older, settling into domesticity, and questioning if you’ve made the right decisions. I think lots of people start asking those questions of themselves around my age, and it was super comforting to me writing them down, hoping they’d resonate with others too. I used this song as a dumping ground for so many thoughts,” she said in the press release.
‘STONED AT THE NAIL SALON’
(Lyrics)
Got a wishbone drying on the windowsill in my kitchen
Just in case I wake up and realise I’ve chosen wrong
I love this life that I have
The vine hanging over the door
And the dog who comes when I call
But I wonder sometimes what I’m missing
My hot blood’s been burning for so many summers now
It’s time to cool it down
Wherever that leads
‘Cause all the beautiful girls, they will fade like the roses
And all the times they will change, it’ll all come around
I don’t know
Maybe I’m just stoned at the nail salon
Maybe I’m just stoned at the nail salon again
Got a memory of waiting in your bed wearing only my earrings
We’d go dancing all over the land mines under our town
But the sun has to rise
When it does, we’ll divide up the papers
Two former hell-raisers
I’m still crazy for you, babe
My hot blood’s been burning for so many summers now
It’s time to cool it down
Wherever that leads
‘Cause all the music you loved at sixteen, you’ll grow out of
And all the times they will change, it’ll all come around
I don’t know
Maybe I’m just stoned at the nail salon
Maybe I’m just stoned at the nail salon again
Oh, make it good
Oh, make it good
I’d ride and I’d ride on the carousel round and round forever if I could
But it’s time to cool it down
Whatever that means
Spend all the evenings you can with the people who raised you
Cause all the times they will change, it’ll all come around
I don’t know
Maybe I’m just stoned at the nail salon
Maybe I’m just stoned at the nail salon again
