Universal Music has announced the 20th anniversary reissue of Amy Winehouse‘s ‘Back to Black‘, due on 23 October — four days before the exact anniversary of the original release on 27 October 2006. Produced by Mark Ronson and Salaam Remi, the record is widely regarded as one of the finest albums of the 2000s and remains the best-selling British debut album of the 21st century. The reissue will be released via UMR/Island across several formats: a 3-LP edition, 3-CD edition, digital, and special variants.
The previously unreleased material is the real draw here. The reissue includes four unheard demos that offer a rawer glimpse into some of the album’s most iconic tracks, alongside four rare B-sides. One of the formats will feature, for the first time on vinyl and streaming platforms, Amy Winehouse’s complete live performance at the Paradiso in Amsterdam in February 2007, recorded during her ‘Back to Black‘ tour. Physical editions will also include previously unseen photographs by Mischa Richter and Alex Lake — the photographers behind the original album — handwritten notes by Winehouse herself, and new liner notes from producers Ronson and Remi.

Ronson has recently reflected on how remarkable it is that songs made “in a moment of pure musical feeling” are still connecting with so many people twenty years on. Meanwhile, The Amy Winehouse Band — led by bassist and musical director Dale Davis with singer Bronté Shande stepping into Winehouse’s role — will embark on a UK commemorative tour in October to mark the album’s anniversary.
