Shakira has officially premiered her long-awaited comeback single, ‘Don’t Wait Up‘, which arrives four years after her last album (‘El Dorado’) and after different collaborations such as ‘Me gusta’ with Anuel AA, ‘Tutu (Remix)’ with Camilo and Pedro Capó or ‘Girl Like Me’ with The Black Eyed Peas.
The single has been produced by Ian Kirkpatrick (Dua Lipa, Britney Spears, Selena Gomez, Jason Derulo) and comes with a cover designed by María P. Marulanda with photography by Iván Monagas. ‘Don’t Wait Up‘ is the first single Shakira has released in English and solo since ‘She Wolf‘ in 2009.
Here’s what the artist had to say about the single: “I’m excited to share my new song ‘Don’t Wait Up’ with everyone – the day we created it in the studio, I knew it would be perfect for summer and those nights where you don’t want to think about tomorrow!”.
The song is accompanied by an official music video for ‘Don’t Wait Up’, which was filmed in Tenerife. The Colombian singer stayed several days at Abama Resort Tenerife in the municipality of Guía de Isora, where she filmed some of the most memorable images of the short film.
‘DON’T WAIT UP’ (Lyrics)
Do you remember how we lit up the room?
And how you felt before you met all my different moods?
But now I drive you mad when I hit you with the truth
Oh-oh, oh-oh
Don’t let your mind think it’s someone else, someone else
I need to do something for myself, oh
Don’t wait up
Don’t wait up, up, up, up, up
Don’t wait up
Don’t wait up, up, up, up, up
Don’t be afraid if it gets late, yeah
You’ll survive, it’s just one night
Don’t wait up
Don’t wait up, up, up, up, up, up, up
Why won’t you put down your phone and look me in the eye?
Got all dressed up for you, but you seem so occupied
Maybe space is all it takes, it’s timе to fix us
Don’t let your mind think it’s someone еlse, someone else
I need to do something for myself, oh
Don’t wait up
Don’t wait up, up, up, up, up
Don’t wait up
Don’t wait up, up, up, up, up
Don’t be afraid if it gets late, yeah
You’ll survive, it’s just one night
Don’t wait up
Don’t wait up, up, up, up, up, up, up, ah
First I kissed you
Then I got mad at you
‘Cause I wish I’d
Be happy without you
If I ditch you
Then maybe you would understand
Then maybe you would understand
I need to do something for myself, ohh
Don’t wait up
Don’t wait up, up, up, up, up
Don’t wait up
Don’t wait up, up, up, up, up
Don’t be afraid if it gets late, yeah
You’ll survive, it’s just one night
Don’t wait up
Don’t wait up, up, up, up, up, up, up, ah
